WELCOME TO TEACHING MISS MCDONALD!
I am so proud of my stepdaughter Megan McDonald. Megan completed her college education at the University of Iowa and came to live with us this fall in order to do her student teaching. Megan chose to student teach in the Aldine Independent School District.
What is important to know is that the Aldine district here in Houston is a huge district with some very challenging schools. Megan accepted her student teaching position at what is known as a very difficult, inner-city school.
Not shying away from a challenge, Megan jumped right in a few months ago and came home with some of the most heart-wrenching stories of some of the children. Her eyes and her heart have been opened to the incredible need out there. Megan has learned that not only does she feel a sense of doing something really worthwhile in life, she has discovered a true love for these kids.
Just last week Megan was asked to step into a full-time job at the school she is doing her student teaching in. She will take over a first grade class as of next week and she will be a full-fledged teacher! Not to mention, a paid teacher at that!
Megan, we are so proud of you and know that you have a talent for working with these children. We know that you WILL make a difference in their lives and we wish you all of the best as you take on this responsibility. You are following your heart!
Megan is pictured here with the McDonald's flag that hung in her Grandmother McDonald's classroom many years ago. Megan's grandmother passed away when Megan was a baby so this is super special indeed. We know that she is proud of you Megan!
Keep up the good work and know that each and every day you do have the opportunity to change and impact lives!
