GUIDE TO DATING YOUR CLIENTS
I was listening to a very wise woman who was discussing the topic of the importance of dating your significant other in order to keep the relationship sharp, fresh and exciting. As I listened intently to her suggestions, I couldn't help but realize that this is how I should look at the relationship I have with my business clients.
Work with me a minute to allow me to expand on this. Several of the suggestions about keeping the dating thing important are 1. Making dating a priority. 2. Have specific guidelines while on the date. 3. Focus on one another during the time. Keep some romance in the relationship! (i.e. no mobile devices).
So what would it look like if we used some of these dating suggestions on our clients?
1. Putting commnication with our clients a priority. Don't drop the communication ball and find different methods of communicating each week. Find out which communication method your client prefers.
2. Specific guidelines are set for the date. With a date you typically plan ahead, get spiffed up and are on your best behavior. When we are setting a date with our clients are we prepared? Do you have your files and are they complete and orderly? Are you looking your best and presenting your professional side? Are you on your best behavior? Treating your clients with the utmost care is so important.
3. Focusing on the client while you are with them is paramount. Turning the cell phone off while with the client lets them know that they are your main focus. Paying attention to what they are telling you shows that you care and that you are really listening.
Take a minute to assess your contact with your client. Perhaps it is time to set up a "date" with them and let them know that they are important to you! Above all, dating should be fun so be yourself and keep things relaxed. Have fun dating!
