ALL OF LIFE IS ABOUT A BALANCING ACT!

ALL OF LIFE IS ABOUT A BALANCING ACT!

Balance

As a former Biology teacher, I was always teaching my students the concept of the word "Homeostasis".  According the dictionary, the proper definition is as follows:

"The property of a system that regulates its internal environment and tends to maintain a stable, constant condition."

This concept is so important in order for our bodies to stay regulated such as our blood pressure, temperature, blood chemistry, metabolism, etc.  Our bodies as well as all living things need to maintain a balance in order to thrive and to stay healthy.

As I pondered this biological fact, it occurred to me that when I am not in balance within my own life such as my business, family life, physical life and spiritual life, I can become unbalanced very quickly and something always needs to give in order to get back to a balance.

So how do we do this balancing act when the demand of our lives are so huge?  The way I handle this is to take each area of my life and assess and rank how I am doing in each area.  If something is really out of balance, I know that it is time to take stock and re-think what I am focusing on.

Business life - what are THE most important tasks that I need to do today?  What tasks can I have someone else do for me?  What do I need to let go of?

Family life - how much quality time am I spending with family and or friends?  I find that setting specific dates on the calendar for family and friends keeps them a priority.  Relationships are so important to protect.

Physical life - this is probably one of the most difficult to carve out time for but so very important.  For me, when I miss several days without a workout of some kind, I can really feel the imbalance.  Even taking the time for a short walk is great to do.  Without a well-functioning body, the rest of you will suffer in some way.  This is crucial for overall balance.

Spiritual life - we all need that time to get away from it all and to just be in the moment.  Taking time out to pray, read, meditate, go to church or temple is equally as important as all of the other areas.  Our minds need a break and this is an excellent way to get your mind on something serene and peaceful.

Check your "homeostasis" today and see where you need to make some changes.  Balancing is the key to staying healthy, focused and on top of our game!

Happy Homeostasis!
