It is certainly a sign of the times with all of the road expansion and construction around The Woodlands, Texas! As much of a headache for drivers, the expansions and improvements are very much needed. With the increased number of residents moving here along with the number of new business putting their roots down in this area, there has been an added stress to our roadways.
Here is an update of some of the various road expansion, improvement projects:
The Grand Parkway - A much anticipated roadway that will encircle the entire Houston area adding yet another loop to the city. The segments near The Woodlands are well underway and progress is moving quickly. With the new Exxon/Mobil campus nearing completion, this road will serve as a very important artery in our area.
The SH 242 Flyover - This is such a needed flyover for this area. With St. Luke's Hospital along with The Lone Star College and University Center directly along this corridor, the congestion at the light at I-45 has been stacking up for years. This flyover is nearing completion as well and cannot be too soon!
Kuykendahl Road Bridge - This 2-lane road over Spring Creek is not adequate at all any longer for the many people heading to and from The Woodlands along this north/south corridor. As the Village of Creekside has exploded in growth, the current 2 lanes are crazy congested!
SH 249 - This segment of State Highway 249 going north through Tomball and into Magnolia is also very much needed. The construction is finally going more quickly and it appears that some of the concrete has been poured which is a great sign. As more and more people leave The Woodlands from the west end, 249 offers a great corridor into Houston.
I along with you all feel your pain as I too travel these roads! I just try to keep in mind that we need them and it means that our area is progressing in a most positive way! Plan your day with the construction in mind!
Be safe and stay alert when traveling about the area! Happy driving!
