A CHILD'S TEARS AT A CLOSING

A CHILD'S TEARS AT A CLOSING

Tears

Last week I was at a closing with my client's who were closing on one home and then closing on their new home later that same day.  The entire family was which included the client's two children who are 8 and 12.  To all of us adults, what we were doing was simply going through the motions of getting everything signed.

I noticed that the young girl was sitting quietly with tears streaming down her face.  When her mother noticed, the girl burst out crying that she was so sad about moving.  It was so moving.

Change comes and goes in our lives and it is easy to forget that these changes profoundly affect our children.  Seeing this little girls tears was such a great reminder that what we do in this job affects people in so many different ways.  Moving from a childhood home and into a new home and neighborhood can be quite daunting to anyone.

May we all never get too caught up in a transaction to remember the emotional side of what we do.  I am praying that this dear child was able to accept the change and is happy in her new home and school today!

A child's tears at this closing will stick with me as another reason to always keep this job about the people and never about the transaction!
