HAVING FUN WITH FLOWERS!

HAVING FUN WITH FLOWERS!

Flowers

Since it feels like Spring here, I got into the mood to get busy arranging flowers.  In my quest to bring the some Spring-like feeling into my home I went and shopped for the non-real flowers, the container and the other necessary items to make it happen.  Those of you who have shopped for the completed flower arrangements know that they typically run between $300 - $500 each.  Of course the more variety, the more expensive it can be.

Paying attention to details is what will allow you to create your own arrangement fairly easily.  You really don't need to pay $300 - $500 and it really isn't that difficult or time consuming.  Here are my suggestions to create a great arrangement on a budget:

  • Decide on the color-scheme and where the arrangement will go.
  • Determine the size that you need, height and diameter.
  • Look for hobby stores like Hobby Lobby or Michael's that are having a sale on their flowers.
  • Select the container and take it with you to the store where you purchase your flowers.
  • Begin selecting a lot of different types, sizes and textures of flowers and greenery.  The more variety the better look that you will achieve.  My selections above include about 20 different types of flowers, greenery and berries.
  • Make sure that you have a good pair of wire cutters so that you can cut down the heights to fit your needs.
  • Purchase a piece of Styrofoam to place into the bottom of your container.
  • Begin arranging your taller flowers and larger blooms first.  Start in the middle and work your way to the outsides.
  • Make sure that you work the arrangement from all sides so that no matter how you turn it, it will look nice.
  • Begin filling in the smaller flowers, the berries and the greenery.
  • Use moss to fill in if necessary around the base of the arrangement.

Your finished product should be gorgeous and something you will be proud of.   Keep the arrangement from looking too perfect.  It should appear as if you just went out and fresh picked these!  Being too structured will keep you from achieving that "expensive" look.

This project took me less than an hour to create and I only paid approximately $90 for all of the flowers, the foam and the container!  Now that is a savings!

Have fun with flowers today!
